DigiLamon Food Review
If you’re craving Thai food in Davao and you want something a bit more sit-down and comfort-focused, Benjarong Bar and Restaurant Davao is a solid option. We ordered a few dishes and overall had a good dining experience — some dishes were standouts, while a couple had small details that could be improved.
I like reviewing places like this because it’s not about perfection; it’s about how the food performs in real life and whether the experience is worth coming back for. Benjarong delivers a good meal, and with a few tweaks, it could easily be even better.

Table of Contents
What We Ordered
Shrimp Cake (5/5) – Crispy, Flavorful, and a Must-Order
This dish was the clear winner.
The Shrimp Cake was crispy on the outside, tender inside, and packed with flavor. The texture was on point — not dry, not chewy — and the shrimp flavor came through clearly.
What made it even better was the sauce pairing. The sauce complemented the shrimp cake perfectly and elevated every bite. This is the kind of starter you order and immediately think: “Okay, this is promising.”
If you’re dining at Benjarong for the first time, Shrimp Cake is a must-order. It’s the safest item to recommend because it delivered both in taste and texture.
Green Chicken Curry (4/5) – Creamy, Aromatic, and Comforting
The Green Chicken Curry was also a strong dish overall.
It was creamy, aromatic, and well-balanced in terms of spice and coconut flavor. The curry had that comforting warmth and richness that makes green curry so satisfying, especially when paired with rice.
I’d recommend this dish to people who like Thai curries but don’t want something overly spicy or overpowering. It’s flavorful and enjoyable, with a good balance that works for most diners.
The only reason it’s not a perfect score is simply because it didn’t stand out as much as the shrimp cake — but it’s still a good and solid choice, especially if you want something filling.
Crab Omelette (3/5) – Tastes Good, But Needs More Crab
The Crab Omelette tasted good, but this dish fell short because it didn’t have enough crab meat.
It ended up feeling more like a regular omelette with just small bits of crab rather than a crab-focused dish. Flavor-wise it was fine — the omelette itself was enjoyable — but if you’re ordering something called crab omelette, you expect the crab to be the star.
This dish isn’t bad, but it’s not something I’d prioritize unless they increase the crab meat portion. If you’re choosing between dishes, I’d suggest picking the shrimp cake or curry first.
Beef Phad Ka Prao (3/5) – Good Beef, But Sauce and Balance Fell Short
The Beef Phad Ka Prao had potential, especially because the serving was hefty and the beef wasn’t fatty — which I really appreciated. The beef felt clean and satisfying to eat.
However, there were two key things that held this dish back for us:
1) Too saucy (we prefer it drier but still juicy)
The ka prao sauce wasn’t reduced enough to our liking. We prefer ka prao that’s slightly drier — still juicy, but not swimming in sauce. Here, the sauce was a bit too much, and it affected the overall texture and bite.
2) Flavor leaned salty with a sour hint
Flavor-wise, it leaned more on the salty side, and we also noticed a slight sour hint that felt a bit weird for a ka prao dish. We were expecting more of that classic sweet-salty balance that makes a good ka prao so addictive.
Instead, the flavor profile felt off compared to what we’re used to — still edible, still filling, but not something we’d rave about.
This dish could improve a lot with a better sauce reduction and a more balanced flavor profile.
Final Verdict
Overall, Benjarong Bar and Restaurant Davao offers a good Thai dining experience, especially if you stick to their stronger dishes.
Highly recommended:
- Shrimp Cake (5/5)
- Green Chicken Curry (4/5)
Okay but could be improved:
- Crab Omelette (needs more crab)
- Beef Phad Ka Prao (better reduction + balance needed)
If you’re visiting Benjarong, start with the shrimp cake because it’s the standout. Pair it with curry for a comforting meal, and you’ll likely have a satisfying experience.
Benjarong Davao = good Thai food with a few honest notes, and a shrimp cake that’s definitely worth coming back for.
