Hong Kong Disneyland First-Time Experience at 39: A Honest Review by Jin Grey

Visiting Hong Kong Disneyland Resort for the first time at age 39, with Kenn at 42, wasn’t something I expected in this stage of life. But stepping inside the park felt like we tapped into a version of ourselves that we rarely see as adults. It was fun, light, and surprisingly refreshing.

You appreciate the magic differently when you’re older — and somehow, you feel more grateful for it.

This blog shares our full story: the real costs, the rides we enjoyed, what we regret missing, what we don’t recommend, and why we still want to go back.

Booking Through Klook and Ticket Prices

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is not cheap, and transparency matters.
We booked our tickets through Klook, which included a free meal voucher worth less than HKD $160, which we redeemed at the Royal Banquet Restaurant inside the park.

Total Disneyland Ticket Cost

  • ₱11,900 PHP for 2 people
  • Approx. HKD $1,660

This covered:

  • Park admission
  • One meal voucher each

It’s a high price for one day, but for a first-time Hong Kong Disneyland Resort experience, it felt justified.

Premier Access 3: A Practical Upgrade

We also purchased Premier Access 3 to skip long lines.

Premier Access Cost

  • ₱2,834 PHP for 2 people
  • Approx. HKD $395

We used it on the most popular attractions:

  • Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars
  • Iron Man Experience
  • Mystic Manor

These alone made the Premier Access worth it. If you want to avoid wasting time in queues, this add-on is very helpful.

Taxi from Rambler Oasis Hotel

To simplify our morning, we took a taxi from our hotel.

  • Taxi Fare: HKD $270 total

Not the cheapest, but definitely the most convenient.

The Giant Turkey Leg: Fun to Try, but Not for Me

Since it’s all over the internet, we decided to try the Giant Turkey Leg, which costs HKD $180.
I genuinely expected it to be delicious because of the hype, but personally, I didn’t enjoy it. The flavor didn’t match my expectations, and it was a bit overwhelming.

My honest recommendation:

  • If you want to try it just for the experience, go ahead.
  • But if you’re expecting great taste, I do not recommend it.

It’s fun for photos and a one-time curiosity, but not something I would buy again.

Experiencing Disneyland as an Adult

As adults with responsibilities and a digital nomad lifestyle, we rarely allow ourselves to step into a day that feels carefree. Disneyland has a way of making you forget work for a moment and reconnect with simple joy.

What Stood Out

  • The castle looks beautiful in person
  • Parade performances are impressive
  • The park is clean, organized, and pleasant
  • Staff members are friendly and helpful
  • The overall atmosphere feels safe and joyful

You notice details you probably wouldn’t appreciate when younger — the effort, the design, the storytelling, the energy of the crowd.

What We Missed: The Fireworks Show

We didn’t get to watch the iconic fireworks because I had to head back to the hotel for work. Digital nomad life doesn’t pause, even for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

It was disappointing, but it also gave me a strong reason to return.
Next time, I’m staying until the very end.

Would I Visit Again? Yes, Without Question

Even with the high costs and the missed fireworks, the overall experience was memorable. Disneyland Hong Kong is the kind of theme park you can visit more than once and still enjoy.

Next Visit Plans

  • Stay for the fireworks
  • Explore more attractions
  • Try more food (but not the turkey leg)
  • Spend a full day without work interruptions

It’s a place that reminds you that joy has no age limit.

Fully Self-Funded Experience

Every expense from this trip was paid out of our own pocket:

  • Park tickets
  • Premier Access
  • Food
  • Transportation

No discounts, no sponsorships, no collaborations.
It was a day earned through our work as digital nomads — which made the experience even more rewarding.

Final Thoughts

Hong Kong Disneyland delivered a day that felt light, fun, and memorable — even at 39 and 42. It’s not cheap, but the experience, the energy, and the sense of nostalgia make it meaningful, especially for adults.

We will definitely return, and next time, we’re staying for the full show.
